From a recent interview
Every time we get into this conversation—
and I find it at the root of a number of
issues, especially about women—it occurs
to me that we seldom make clear
distinctions between leadership, power,
and authority. We squeeze them as if one
needs the others and they’re all the same
thing.

Power is the assurance that I have the
resources to expect that what I want done
will be done. Parents have power.
Teachers have power. Policemen have
power. It covers, actually, a pretty limited
thing that says...>>>

NEW BOOK from JOAN
CHITTISTER:
The Art of Life: Monastic
Reflections for Every Day
Through brief daily reflections, Joan
Chittister looks to great works of art
for inspiration, bringing the monastic
perspective to the brushstrokes of
masters like Van Gogh, Cezanne, Millet
and more. Each of the 12 full-color
masterpieces is accompanied by Sister
Joan’s meditations on life, the soul,
and the search for fullness of self in a
modern world.

NEW BOOK from MARY LOU
KOWNACKI
Old Monk
For her morning meditation, Benedictine
monk Mary Lou Kownacki read a poem
from Han-shan’s classic, Cold Mountain,
and then wrote a poem and short
commentary in response. Old Monk is the
result of that spiritual practice. Honest,
humorous, poignant, inspiring, Old Monk
invites us all to join the great dialogue of
life.
